The Crimea includes territories of Autonomous
Republic of Crimea (the area - 26.1 thousand square kilometers)
and of the city of Sevastopol (the area - 0.9 thousand square kilometers.)
The Crimean Autonomous Republic includes also the Bay of Sivash
and consequently its area is a little bit more, than the territory
of peninsula. It comprises 4.3% of the territory of Ukraine, and
its population is 4.6%. Relatively big territories, for convenience
of management, are usually divided into smaller administrative and
territorial units. In Crimea we distinguish administrative areas
(districts) in which the agricultural population prevails, and territories
under supervision of Town Soviets (Councils) where the largest part
of the population lives in cities and settlements of city type.
Two cities - Sevastopol and Kerch - are given the titles of Hero-
Cities for heroism and courage of their inhabitants and soldiers
during the Great Patriotic war (1941-1945).
